DESIGN CHALLENGE

With the economy rebounding and consumers spending money on recreational vehicles again, Dometic knew that it was the perfect time to make an impact in the RV air-conditioner market.

APPROACH

In a highly competitive space, Dometic needed a dynamic new design with trend-setting aesthetics and improved system performance. The new design would need to be low-profile, quiet and efficient. The overall value proposition had to convince consumers to pass-over economy models in favor of an improved experience.

SOLUTION

Inspired by automotive air-tunnel testing, i3’s design team set out to design a sleek, aerodynamic and premium aesthetic not seen in the RV market. In parallel to these efforts, i3’s engineers focused on improving the overall airflow and efficiency of the AC system.

These efforts, combined with an improved mounting scheme driven by FEA, ensured that the new housings would be cost-effective within Dometic’s manufacturing means.
